News From Rob Nelson

This group is about Sagelight Editor -- Now that it's out and because of the work I've done on the 48-bit engine, I'm now in a position to really add more core components.

I want to listen to what you want to guide me into the next few updates.

I noticed (around one week ago) that the layout of the Sagelight Blog main web-page has been recently modified ... :P

No, you won't have to do that.

You won't have to wait that long.

He will. I would not say this if I did not know it to be true!

Most days I do a check to see if Rob is back. I very much miss his discussions and blog. I haven't been able to find such a source of such great photographic knowledge anywhere on the net. I hope you are right Detailman.

Do not worry - I would not deceive you and all the other forum readers/members.
I simply want to allow Rob to communicate again at a time of his own choosing.

Not sure what you intend to mean, but - I spoke with Rob on or around August 7th, and he said to me that you can expect him to be releasing a new version of Sagelight soon.

In addition, he is hoping to be able to bring on a partner (to help with communications such as email and subject-matter on this forum and his blog, etc.). He is only one (quite busy) man.

Code development is a very time consuming occupation. Good things always take a good amount of time to perfect (and then a little extra to get things right before "shipping"). *Fear not.*

While my intentions are positive ones (in trying to allow Rob Nelson to be able to commit a maximal amount of his time towards software development of his next version of Sagelight), ... I am growing uncomfortable in my self-chosen of role of being a "promise maker" on this forum. Therefore, here are the communications that I have had with (and to) Rob Nelson:

Regarding Sagelight - the developer (Rob Nelson) has pulled an over 100-day "disappearing act", and it is becoming unclear whether he will be re-emerging with a Version 4.0 of Sagelight.

"Hi, Detail Man.

Unfortunately, the 90 days or so that I've been offline have been because of many circumstances all colliding at the same time, but have spent the bulk of my free time continuing to develop Sagelight.

I originally just wanted to take a month off, and the other member of the company is still finding his stride and will hopefully make an appearance online soon to help with the discussion board items while I continue to develop.

After going through answering 50 or so e-mails a day, every day, for about a month-and-a-half, I was burned out and only had the bandwidth to develop -- because no development was taking place during that time.

I am nearly finished with a new release and expected to be back on the boards/blogs when I released it, but some development issues (as well as the issues with the server mentioned in another e-mail, which have been driving me crazy) kept setting back the release. These have been mostly research issues about where I'd like to Sagelight go.

But, I can fill in more of that when I release the next version, which will be as soon as possible. If anyone wants a beta of it, please let me know (sagelighteditor@yahoo.com -- for now, until I figure out these server issues), which should be ready in a just a few days.

Anyway, just to let you and everyone else know I am still here and have been working very hard on the next version, which has left little room for other things -- it's fairly complicated, and I'll be happy to let anyone know more privately about what the deal is.

Rob

I haven't heard back from Rob, so here's my question.
Does SageLight support ptlens?
I tried copying the ptlens32.8bf file to the sagelight plugin directory. The plug-in shows up in sagelight, but if I try to use it, sagelight crashes.
Is there a trick to making it work or is it just not supported
?"

I sure do not know definitively, my friend. I certainly sounds (from your described experience with Sagelight 3.1 (?) crashing when you select PT Lens), that Sagellight does not "know about" PT Lens ... but you are reasonably suspecting that, yourself.

Are you out there Rob Nelson??? This person (and your forum-members) really could use some communication(s) from you! I have re-assured your "Sagelight faithful" more than once since you communicated with me on DP Review Panasonic Talk Forum on your behalf (without referring to your specific communication with you on this forum) ... Please communicate with these people in some manner - I fear that they are going to stop believing that you actually exist if this hiatus in communications goes on very much longer ...

Regards, DM

Long silences from the developer are not good for the product. However, it is easy to understand how a one man team could become overwhelmed. It may be preferable to have Rob drop regular pearls of wisdom of his choosing on the blog, whereas the forum could be used for users to talk amongst themselves.
